The State Department has issued a warning regarding increased terrorism in Egypt. Following the Arab uprisings, clearly a violent resurgence of Islamic terrorism and a new Al-Qaeda core is at work. Now certain Egyptian jihadist organizations are calling for genocide against Christians.
Moreover, reports reveal an increase of “U.S. citizen women subject to domestic violence, sexual harassment, verbal abuse, and rape in Egypt. Women have been groped in taxis and public places.” [See http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1108.html#victim].
However, what the State Department does not say is what is being acknowledged in press accounts in the Middle East and here at home. Egypt’s Coptic Christian women are also being targeted daily. Christians are being abducted, enslaved and are increasingly targeted for death, bombings, abductions, and forced conversions and marriages, their churches and monasteries destroyed. [See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xap8xj4A1nE and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3wph2Lc9gA].
As the situation deteriorates for Egypt’s Christian minority videos have emerged of the on-going persecution of Christians in Egypt. [See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-UQ9OCY9eA&feature=related and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsVHLWo-TMw].
Reportedly, Christian leaders in Egypt are frightened to the point they refuse to acknowledge publicly the new terror that has emerged since the election of Muslim Brotherhood President Morsi and a Brotherhood / Salafi majority in Parliament.
Crucifying dissidents in Egypt, Yemen, and elsewhere in the Middle East is also an emerging concern for Christians. See my Facebook posting for 31 August. Viewing a photo image of a man crucified in south Yemen by an Al-Qaeda affiliated group called Ansar Al-Sharia with a sign above the man’s head and a quotation from the Koran, verse 5:33 which reads: “The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and do mischief in the land is only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off from opposite sides, or be exiled from the land,” [See MEMRI, Special Dispatch 4918, August 28, 2012], is a stunning reminder of the “clash of civilizations” a phrase that has gained world-wide notoriety. Authored by Harvard University Professor, Dr. Samuel Huntington, it is a concept that captures the essence of the deep divide between the Muslim and non-Muslim worlds.
These events are one more reminder that American foreign aid should only be dispersed to countries that respect basic human rights and disallow terrorist groups the ability to recruit, train, and murder within their borders.
Furthermore, the attacks on 09.11.12 were against non-Muslim, Western targets. It presented the President of the United States with an opportunity to advance the need for religious freedom for non-Muslim minorities and free speech rights the world over.
In light of horrific persecution in the Muslim world of Christians, some say genocide in Egypt, Pakistan, and Nigeria, is it not the time for the leader of the free world to endorse religious freedom, free speech rights, and bring to light the horrific persecution of Christian men, women, and children who are murdered mercilessly on the streets of Egypt and other Muslim dominant countries?
