As a Middle East specialist, my question during the Presidential debates has been who do America’s enemies most want to see elected as President in November 2012?
Leaders of Middle East terrorist groups have weighed in on behalf of President Obama.
Why? Terrorists have stated they like Obama’s deadline for an American defeat in Afghanistan in 2014, troop withdrawals from Iraq, and little to no response waged against state-sponsors of terrorism such as Iran, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and groups like Hamas and the PLO. Indeed, Obama has gone so far as to accommodate by Iran by abandoning claims that Iran is a “state sponsor of terrorism,” uses the term “violent groups” to describe Hizballah and Hamas, and only “formally requested” that Iran return America’s RQ-170 super spy drone that cost American taxpayers $700 billion. Iran has now reverse engineered that spy craft and will no doubt use it against the U.S. and America’s strategic allies.
Islamists have suggested that President Obama is at times directly, as in the case of Egypt, Libya, Pakistan, and Lebanon or indirectly, as in the case of Iran, helping ensure a victory for the Islamic resistance movement worldwide due to the absence of any serious military reaction against the ascendancy of Islamist regimes and Al-Qaeda’s resurgence across the Maghreb states and throughout the Middle East region.
In addition, Iran’s Ahmadinejad, referred to by military and intelligence officials as the world’s number one threat, supports the President’s re-election along with a number of Khomeini supporters in his government.
Iranian leaders appreciate the back-channel communication in which the President has indicated that he opposes an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, this according to Al-Monitor, an Arab website, and based on an interview with Senator Chuck Hagel, an advisor to the President, back in March of this year. [See http://www.al-monitor.com/pulse/originals/2012/barbara-slavin/hagel-praises-obama-approach-to.html].
Finally, Hugo Chavez, a Venezuelan dictator known for his human rights violations has also endorsed Obama. Chavez has stated that he not only would vote for America’s President if living in the United States, but believes the President would also vote for him, Chavez, if Obama were living in “some Caracas neighborhood.”
Wow! What a line-up of endorsements Mr. President!
America, who will you stand with as you elect a new President in 2012?
